A Chat with DJ Frenzie - Old School Thursdays at Della Hyde

1. Tell us a little about yourself

Just on the quiet, I've been inventing a time machine so I can go back to 1977 and buy records. It's like a secret mission to buy all the Funk and Hip Hop records in the whole world. I'm a huge record nerd, in the same way that Leonardo DiCaprio wants to save the whales or something, except I want to save the world from crap celebrity deejays.

2. How did you get started out as a DJ?

It was all a dream,

I used to read Word Up magazine,

Salt-n-Pepa and Heavy D up in the limousine,

Hangin' pictures on my wall,

Every Saturday Rap Attack, Mr Magic, Marley Marl.

3. Favourite genre of music to play?

All the genres: Hip Hop AND R&B!

At Della Hyde I'll take it back to the oldschool days of 1997 - and perhaps to the pre-school days of 1987 or the prehistoric days of 1977!

I love it all. It's just all good old fashioned party music to me - and you can actually dance to it - like how people actually used to use all their limbs in co-ordination and not just jump up and down on the spot.

4. Top 3 favourite Old School tracks?

Anything by Prince.

Anything that doesn't have the words "We the best music!" shouted over it.

And anything from whichever popular musician just died in the past seven days.

5. Go to track to get the crowd pumping?

Today it's Justin Timberlake "Senorita" because it's like an oldschool version of "Despacito" except the words are in English - and it doesn't feature Daddy Yankee which is always a good thing.

6. Why Della?

Della Hyde is like the secret jewel of Darlingurst. It's like Michelle Obama - sexy AND smart - But also kind of like your favourite drunken karaoke partner who is also kind of hot. Plus they make great cocktails.
